Preview: Edmonton at Detroit

When: 7:30 PM ET, Friday, November 27, 2015

Where: Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan

The Detroit Red Wings attempt to extend their point streak to six contests Friday as they continue their six-game homestand against the Edmonton Oilers. Detroit has gone 3-0-2 over its last five games, a span that includes a 3-2 overtime loss to Boston on Wednesday in the opener of its lengthy string at Joe Louis Arena.

That contest began a stretch during which the Red Wings play 11 of 13 in Motown before taking to the road for nine out of 10 games right after Christmas. Edmonton is seeking its second victory in seven games and hopes to break out of its offensive funk in the process. The Oilers posted a 5-1 triumph over New Jersey on Nov. 20 but totaled only one goal as they kicked off their five-game road trip with losses at Washington and Carolina. Edmonton looks to complete a sweep of its season series against Detroit after recording a 3-1 home victory Oct. 21.

ABOUT THE OILERS (7-14-1): Nail Yakupov notched a pair of assists in the home victory over the Red Wings but won’t be around to duplicate the feat. The 22-year-old Russian is expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks with a sprained ankle he suffered in a fall after getting tangled up with a linesman in Wednesday’s setback to the Hurricanes. The first overall pick in the 2012 draft, Yakupov has scored only two goals in 22 games this season, tallying on Oct. 17 and 18 in Calgary and Vancouver, respectively.

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (11-8-3): Pavel Datsyuk became the second member of the Red Wings to join the 300-goal club this season, netting his milestone tally Wednesday to join captain Henrik Zetterberg. Datsyuk is the ninth player to score 300 goals with Detroit, and he and Zetterberg are nine behind Brendan Shanahan for seventh place on the franchise list. Dylan Larkin has scored a team-high eight goals, tying him with Arizona teammates Max Domi and Anthony Duclair for first among NHL rookies.

1. Cam Talbot (3-8-0, 3.09 goals-against average, .890 save percentage) is expected to start in goal for the Oilers.

2. Detroit LW Tomas Tatar has recorded six points (four goals) in his last seven games.

3. Edmonton recalled LW Jujhar Khaira – its 2012 third-round draft pick who has yet to make his NHL debut – from Bakersfield of the American Hockey League.

PREDICTION: Red Wings 4, Oilers 2
