Dime – Chattanooga / Mercer – OVER 127.0
Since McCall took over at T-Chat they’ve slowed things down a bit, but they are MUCH more efficient, especially on offense. That’s zero surprise since he spent a number of years at Florida under Billy Donovan, and sure enough the Mocs offense resembles the Gators. They’re scoring from the perimeter, which is totally opposite of the Mocs teams Mercer is used to playing, and they’re (T-Chat) super experienced. Mercer has done two things on the road that warrant this – they shot 10-25 from behind the arc AT Arkansas, and ALLOWED 73 points AT Kennesaw State last week. Kennesaw State cannot score. The Mocs have scored 77 or more in five straight games, two of them on the road – hence that “new” offense is getting even better. Yes, I like them to cover the number, too, mainly because they just do a much better job of protecting the ball. Mercer is a very good three-point shooting team and T-Chat is not the best perimeter defending team – Mercer does shoot well from the line. What’s interesting is that in Florida’s glory years’ – most teams that either beat them or played them close shot over their defense, not unlike the Mocs’ under McCall. They (the Mocs) beat UGA opening night in Athens, letting the Dawgs (who can’t/don’t shoot three’s) drop in half of them but the Mocs SCORED 74 point BEFORE overtime. They beat Dayton, on the road. They let Radford (no offense) score 75 on them at home. Bottom line is this isn’t likely to be very pretty – but they get there
