Take Philadelphia over Washington (7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5)
The Wizards will no doubt be laying a big number here. We think the Sixers will be able to keep this one close. Washington has been overvalued all season at home, and this is a team that plays down to its level of competition big time. This is not a team to lay a big number with. They are 0-3 ATS on the season when laying seven or more points and 2-7 ATS when laying more than four points. They are just 3-6 ATS at home against losing teams. They have been particularly bad ATS of late, covering only two of their last eight games entering Wednesday’s matchup with Golden State. That game against the Warriors will be a big one for the Wizards, as it is for every team when Golden State comes to town, so that makes this a letdown spot, and Washington is not mentally tough enough to come in here and blow the Sixers out after a big game like that. Philly has been a very strong bet lately. They recently came off a stretch of five straight covers and have covered in seven of nine overall. They should be pretty well rested here as this will be only their second game since Jan. 30. We think this will be a strong underdog bet against an overrated Washington squad.
