NHL Notebook: Red Wings sign first-round LW Svechnikov

The Detroit Red Wings agreed to terms with first-round left winger Evgeny Svechnikov on a three-year entry-level contract Friday.

Svechnikov, 18, was Detroit’s first-round pick (19th overall) during the 2015 NHL draft.

The 6-foot-2, 199-pound Svechnikov made his NHL preseason debut with the Red Wings on Sept. 22 at Chicago before returning to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In three games with Cape Breton this season, he has picked up six points (three goals, three assists), a plus-four rating and recorded 15 shots on goal. As a rookie with the same team in 2014-15, he finished third on the team and second among QMJHL rookies with 78 points (32 goals, 46 assists) in 55 games.

—The Arizona Coyotes signed defenseman Corey Potter to a one-year, two-way contract.

Potter has been assigned to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

The 31-year-old Potter appeared in six games with the Calgary Flames in 2014-15. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound native of Lansing, Mich., also registered 10 assists and a plus-10 rating in 25 games with the Adirondack Flames of the AHL.

—The Minnesota Wild reassigned center Zac Dalpe to the Iowa Wild of the AHL.

Dalpe totaled 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 117 NHL games during parts of five seasons with Carolina, Vancouver and Buffalo (2010-15).

The team also placed right winger Brett Bulmer and defenseman Tyson Strachan on waivers. They will be assigned to Iowa on Saturday if they clear waivers.

—The Chicago Blackhawks assigned eight players to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.

Forwards Marko Dano, Ryan Hartman, Vincent Hinostroza, Brandon Mashinter, Dennis Rasmussen and Garret Ross and defensemen Erik Gustafsson and Ville Pokka were sent to the team’s AHL affiliate.

—The Dallas Stars assigned three players to Texas of the AHL.

Centers Jason Dickinson and Radek Faksa and left winger Remi Elie were loaned to the team’s AHL affiliate.

—The Los Angeles Kings assigned goalie Peter Budaj to Ontario Reign of the AHL.

The team also assigned defenseman Damir Sharipzyanov to his junior team (Owen Sound, OHL).

—The San Jose Sharks recalled nine players from the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL.

Goalie Troy Grosenick, forwards Bryan Lerg, Micheal Haley, John McCarthy, Ryan Carpenter, Frazer McLaren and Jeremy Langlois, and defensemen Karl Stollery and Gus Young were called up.

—The Calgary Flames assigned five players to the Stockton Heat of the AHL.

Center Garnet Hathaway and defensemen Kenney Morrison, Jakub Nakladal, Patrick Sieloff and Tyler Wotherspoon were sent to the team’s AHL affilicate.

The Flames also placed center Drew Shore on waivers.

—The Buffalo Sabres assigned eight players to the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Forwards William Carrier, Evan Rodrigues and Tim Schaller, defensemen Jerome Leduc (pending waivers) and Chad Ruhwedel (pending waivers), and goaltender Nathan Lieuwen were sent to the team’s AHL affiliate.

In addition, forwards Matt Ellis and Patrick Kaleta were released from their tryouts and will report to Rochester for training camp.

—The St. Louis Blues assigned forward Jordan Caron and goaltender Pheonix Copley to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

—The Anaheim Ducks assigned right winger Brian McGrattan to San Diego of the AHL.
