Mississippi State, USC seeing plenty of support from college football bettors
    By ANDREW AVERY

With just one day until the college football playoffs begin, four bowl games are on the board for your betting enjoyment. We talk to Michael Stewart of online shop Carbon Gaming about the action coming in on all four matchups.

Auburn Tigers vs. Memphis Tigers – Open: +2.5, Move: +4

It’s been largely a season to forget for the Auburn Tigers, who have slumped to a 3-9 record against the spread (6-6 SU) this season.

Memphis, on the other hand, had a fantastic 9-3 SU (6-5-1 ATS) campaign that saw head coach Justin Fuente plucked away by Virginia Tech. How the squad responds to Fuente’s absence remains to be seen on the field as Darrell Dickey will take over coaching duties in the Birmingham Bowl.

“We had this game listed Auburn -2.5 early last week, with Memphis getting just under 60 percent of the action to cover the +2.5,” Stewart tells Covers. “Yesterday, we took some sharp action on Auburn that moved the line to Auburn -3.5, then just today we went to Auburn -4, with 74 percent of the action on Memphis to cover.”

North Carolina State Wolpack vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs – Open: -6.5, Move: -5.5, Move: -6.5

The Belk Bowl pits North Carolina State against Mississippi State in Charlotte in the second game of the day. The Wolfpack get to play a short distance from campus and have 15 players that call the Charlotte area home.

That hasn’t been enough to attract support at the betting window, however, as it’s been mostly Bulldogs money that has been coming in.

“Mississippi State was a 5.5-point favorite early last week with 84 percent of the action on them to cover,” Stewart says. “Yesterday we went to Mississippi State -6, still holding 77 percent of the action on them to cover and early this morning we moved the line again to Miss. St. -6.5 with over 80 percent of the action on them to cover.”

Louisville Cardinals vs. Texas A&M Aggies – Open: -2.5, Move: +4.5, Move: +3.5

Both Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray have announced they were transferring away from A&M, leaving quarterback duties to Jake Hubenak in the Music City Bowl Wednesday.

Louisville started the season with three-straight losses but proceeded to win seven of their last nine games and head into their bowl meeting off a 38-24 win as 6.5-point faves at the Kentucky Wildcats.

“We had the Cardinals listed as 4.5-point favorites last week with just under 50 percent of the action on them to cover,” Stewart says. “Late last night we moved the line to Louisville -3.5 with just over 50 percent of the action on the Cards to cover vs. A&M.”

USC Trojans vs. Wisconsin Badgers – Open: +3, Move: +3.5

Wednesday’s bowl action concludes with USC tangling with Wisconsin in the Holiday Bowl. USC has gone 5-2 ATS in its last seven bowl games, while Wisconsin has gone just 1-3 ATS in its last four bowl appearances.

Contrary to other bowl matchups, there hasn’t been a ton of line movement in this game but numbers show action firmly supporting one side.

“USC was a 3.5-point favorite last week with just over 80 percent of the action on them to cover,” Stewart says.”We haven’t had to move off that number as USC is still getting just over 75 percent of the action to cover. We had the total of this game sitting at 50.5 with just under 80% on the under. Late yesterday we moved the total to 51 as the action shifted to the OVER with over 70 percent of the action.”
