Orlando hosts Arnold Palmer Invitational Thursday
    By: Zach Cohen

    Arnold Palmer Invitational

    Tees Off: Thursday, March 17th
‘Bay Hill Club & Lodge’ – Orlando, FL

The PGA TOUR heads to Orlando for the 51st installment of the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Thursday. The winner of this tournament usually shoots a phenomenal score, as seven of the past 10 winners have been under par by double digits. This 7,381-yard course allows for some fantastic play and one guy that will be happy to be back here is Matt Every. Every has won each of the past two years and was straight up dominant in 2015, shooting a 19-under. Unfortunately, Tiger Woods is still out with an injury. He is the all-time leader in wins at this event with eight and nobody else has even won three here. The field will, however, include stars like Jason Day, Justin Rose, Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy. Let’s now take a look at some of the guys that could be hoisting a trophy on Sunday:

Henrik Stenson (5-to-1) – Stenson has had a very slow start to the year, as he has only played in two tournaments in 2016 and he is yet to earn his first top 10 finish of the year. Stenson is, however, going to get a chance to play on a course where he seems to be very comfortable. As mentioned earlier, Matt Every won this event with a 19-under in 2015 but Stenson wasn’t far behind. He shot an 18-under and was the lone runner-up in the event. He should be fueled to finally win this one on Sunday and he is receiving some very solid odds at 5-to-1.

Jason Day (14-to-1) – Day has not yet won a tournament this season, but he is still one of the best golfers on TOUR. He was consistently at the top of the leaderboard a year ago and it’s only a matter of time before he regains his form and begins to win in 2016. With that being said, there is no reason that Day can’t get it going on a very golfer-friendly course. He is going to be a major threat to win on Sunday and it’s not very often that you can get a player like him at 14-to-1. Putting a few units on Day could pay off huge this weekend.

Graeme McDowell (60-to-1) – McDowell has really struggled over the past two weeks, shooting a combined score of six-over at the WGC-Cadillac Championship and the Valspar Championship. Those may scare some away, but he also finished in fifth at the Honda Classic and has been excellent at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in his career. McDowell has never won the tournament, but he was a runner-up in 2005 and then again in 2012. He’ll be hungry to finally win this thing on Sunday and 60-to-1 odds are great for somebody with his history in Orlando.

Matt Every (85-to-1) – It’s not very likely that somebody will win a tournament three years in a row, but Every’s odds are just ridiculous this weekend. He has dominated this course two years in a row and is getting 85-to-1 odds at this event. It’s not something that anybody should load up on, but he is the champion until he is dethroned and putting a unit on him could end up paying off huge on Sunday.

    WUNDERDOG

AQUEDUCT #6 at 03:50 PM Eastern

Top Pick: #1 (MAGNIFIER) (8-5) – Gulfstream shipper has finished second in both starts to date. He missed by a ‘head’ when debuting Sept 7 at Philadelphia Park, then rallied to finish second of nine, beaten two lengths racing at this level and distance Jan 27 at Gulfstream. Working fast since, he makes his NYRA debut off a trainer change to Ralph Nicks. $200K son of ‘Awesome Again’ has the rail and Irad Ortiz Jr. is aboard.

2nd Pick: #2 (Porch Pounder) (4-1) – 4-year-old cost $500,000 back in Sep of 2013 and has had his career hurt by injuries. Gelded son of ‘Quality Road’ finished a distant second here at this level and distance Feb 25. It was his first since Jan 24 of 2015 and first for trainer Gary Gullo. He’s making back-to-back starts for the first time.

3rd Pick: #3 (Jess I Am) (6-1) – Zayat Stable home bred is cutting back in distance after checking in a pace-chasing third when going a mile here from a tough post Feb 20. Working fast since, he’s racing third back off a 3.5 month layoff and is a threat at a square price.

4th Pick: #7 (Gorgeous Charli) (8-1) – One of three making their debuts, gelding will be the longest price of that group. $150K 4-year-old by ‘Speightstown’ has a nice work pattern showing with the latest four drills being well above average.
