CFL Betting Notes – Week 14
    By David Schwab

Heading into Week 14 of the 2015 CFL regular season, Calgary remains on top in the West Division following last Friday’s 35-23 victory over British Columbia which was just shy of covering against the spread as a 12 ½-point home favorite.

Saturday’s action kicked things off with Hamilton dropping a 25-18 decision to Edmonton as a 5 ½-point home favorite. Later in the day the upset trends for the underdogs continued with Ottawa coming away with a 30-27 victory against Saskatchewan as a three-point underdog on the road. The weekend’s action closed with Montreal avoiding the sweep for the underdogs with a key 35-14 victory against Winnipeg as a nine-point favorite at home on Sunday.

Montreal Alouettes (5-6 SU, 6-4-1 ATS) vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-11 SU, 3-9 ATS)
    Point-spread: Montreal -1
    Total: 50

    Game Overview

Montreal got a boost this past Sunday from the return of quarterback Jonathan Crompton after an extended stay on the injury list dating back to Week 1 of the regular season. His numbers were nothing to brag about with 181 yards passing while completing just 14 of his 27 attempts. Despite getting picked-off two times he also found the end zone with two other throws.

The Roughriders dismal season continues with just one SU win and a 1-3 record ATS in their last four games. The total has gone OVER in four of their last six outings behind a defense that is allowing a CFL-high 30.4 points a game. Offensively, Saskatchewan has not been all that bad with an average of 24.1 points a game.

    Betting Trends

Montreal has won 11 of the last 15 meetings SU and it has covered in five of its last six road games against the Roughriders. The total has gone OVER in nine of its last 12 games on the road against Saskatchewan. This will be the first of two meetings this year.

    VEGAS SPORTS INFORMER

7 Unit Play. Take LA Galaxy -125 over FC Dallas (9:30p.m., Sunday, Sept 27 FS1) (Graded after regulation time – 90min – plus injury time – if game ends in a Red Bulls 1 goal victory we have a push)

Can someone please find the LA Galaxy offense before this big home game Sunday night! LA hasn’t scored a goal since August 23 in the MLS regular season and that game was at home against New York FC scoring 5 goals and winning 5-1. Sunday night I see the LA Galaxy getting out of their funk and putting a beat down at home to FC Dallas. The LA Galaxy are undefeated in Carson, California over the last 8 meetings against Dallas in MLS league play and LA are 7-0-1 in those 8 meetings.

Sunday night I see LA scoring early against Dallas and I see the home crowd carrying the Galaxy to an easy home W and we hit another 7-Unit MLS play.

    WUNDERDOG SPORTS

This afternoon Santa Anita has a 9-race program with a First Post of 1:00 Pacific. A hot spell in So. California will continue and that means a Fast main track and a Firm grass course.

    #10 at 05:50 PM Eastern

Top Pick: #9 (HOPE’S ROAR) (8-1) – Longshot is cutting back in distance after a close up finish going 1 1/8th miles at this level on the Saratoga grass Aug. 24th. She had a wide trip from a tough outside post and should be set for a competitive effort at a square price in this shorter contest.

2nd Pick: #2 (Cosmic Tale) (4-1) – Grey filly has good early speed and exits the same last race as ‘Hope’s Roar.’ She set a solid pace that day and held to finish 3rd, just under a length better than that rival. Win candidate.

3rd Pick: #11 (Mohawk Lily) (6-1) – Speed/stalker has finished 4th in both turf starts at this level going a bit longer. Filly moves back to the grass after running 2nd at this tag going 6.5-furlongs on the Saratoga dirt Sept. 3rd. 3yo draws a good post for this trip and is a factor.

4th Pick: #6 (Take a Bow) (12-1) – Longshot is going dirt to turf and making back-to-back starts for the first time. She showed some speed when debuting here on the dirt July 19. In her follow up race at Saratoga Sept. 3rd, she was never involved after ‘bobbling’ at the break. Bred for the grass, she may grab a share at a big price.

5th Pick: #4 (Irish Actor) (3-1) – Freshened up since July 8, she’s dropping back down in class for this attempt. Home bred has had trouble at the start in both appearances and is a threat if able to break cleanly.
